Function of coating

2026-01-22

When use products, we often assess surface properties like wear resistance, heat tolerance, conductivity, and insulation. Coatings are developed through a selection of materials and processes tailored to specific customer requirements. However, when discussing coating performance, it's crucial to emphasize that all materials must meet quality standards. Some customers misunderstand coating applications. One customer once told me, "Just spray tungsten carbide, ensure wear resistance is enough." The reality is, tungsten carbide comes in multiple types: standard-grade for general environments, high-temperature-grade for extreme conditions, and corrosion-resistant variants for corrosive environments – each designed for specific operational scenarios.

The performance of coatings depends on multiple factors. We often compare coatings to medicine – proper application is essential for optimal results, while improper use can turn them into toxic substances. Even with suitable materials, advanced processing techniques are indispensable. Without proper manufacturing processes, the final product will fail to meet requirements. A coating's lifespan isn't visible in a day or two. If issues emerge within days, it indicates poor material selection. For instance, ordinary tap water corrodes WC12Co tungsten carbide coatings within hours, whereas WC10Co4Cr remains corrosion-resistant. Why? Ordinary water contains chloride ions that corrode WC12Co. Poor spray techniques can drastically reduce a coating's lifespan – a well-manufactured coating might last 5 years, while subpar ones may only survive 1-2 years. Customers only see the surface coating without understanding its internal composition, density, phase distribution, or bonding strength – all critical factors affecting product durability.

The most widely used coating application focuses on wear resistance, with variations depending on operating temperature and corrosion conditions. We provide customers with coatings of various properties, including specialized insulating coatings, conductive coatings, thermal coatings, heat barrier coatings, and dielectric coatings. Committed to continuous innovation in coating technologies, we refine every detail to enhance performance – all dedicated to delivering superior customer experiences through meticulous craftsmanship. For more details, please contact Zhuzhou Velavision.
